Delta Air is Delaying Roll Out of New Missoni-Branded Luxury Bedding Due to Trump Policies

Delta Air Lines has reportedly been forced to delay the rollout of luxury new bedding from the Italian fashion house Missoni due to the impact of the Trump administration’s far-reaching tariffs.

The new bedding, which includes a sleek new duvet, mattress pad, and plush pillow, was first announced last June, but after a series of delays, the new bedding was expected to finally roll out early next month.

According to sources quoted by industry insider xJonNYC on Bluesky and X, that date has now been pushed back once again, with President Trump’s tariffs being cited as the primary reason for the latest setback.

In the context of where Delta and the rest of the US airline industry find themselves at the moment, this delay shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

With all the major US airlines now having published their financial results for the first quarter, it’s fair to say that Delta was the most pessimistic about the state of the economy and its potential impact on business.

Earlier this month, Delta said it would have to start “actively managing costs and capital expenditures” as domestic travel demand dwindles and growth has stalled in other markets.

A timeline of Delta’s latest woes

  • January 10 – CEO Ed Bastian predicts 2025 will be Delta’s most profitable year ever
  • February 17 – Delta Connection regional jet crash lands at Toronto Pearson Airport
  • March 10 – Bastian warns of slowing domestic travel demand and issues new guidance for Q1 results
  • April 9 – Delta pulls financial guidance for the rest of the year after warning of ‘broad economic uncertainty’
  • April 9 – The airline announces cost-cutting, delays to big capital expenditures and deferral of big aircraft orders.

Chief executive Ed Bastian has made secret of the fact that the airline’s woes only began after President Trump took office and immediately started talking about sweeping tariffs.

As for the effect that tariffs might have on other aspects of Delta’s business, the airline has confirmed that it will not take delivery of any new airplanes made by European aerospace giant Airbus if tariffs are added on top of the agreed-upon purchase price.

This will affect the delivery of wide-body aircraft like the Airbus A350-100, which Delta had hoped to start flying early next year, as they are manufactured in Europe.

It’s not clear which country Delta is sourcing its new Missoni-branded Delta One bedding from, but tariff exposure could add between 10% if manufactured in Europe and as much as 145% if the bedding is more likely made in China.

Delta last updated its Delta One bedding in 2022 when it introduced blankets made out of recycled plastic bottles. These blankets were fine, but Delta has tried to forge partnerships with luxury brands to further enhance the passenger experience.

Missoni-branded amenity kits were introduced on schedule last year, but it’s unknown whether Trump’s tariffs could cause a supply chain issue in the near future.
