A female passenger reportedly stripped naked and defecated on her seat shortly after a Southwest Airlines flight from Philadelphia landed at Chicago Midway Airport on Friday.
The incident occurred onboard Southwest flight WN418, which landed in Chicago at around 6:40 am on April 25 following a two-hour flight from Philadelphia.
“Our Teams are reaching out to those onboard to apologize for the situation and any delays to their travel plans.”
Southwest Airlines spokesperson
According to sources cited by local news station NBC 5 Chicago, the passenger stripped naked at some point during the flight and then defecated on her seat, prompting a request for law enforcement to meet the aircraft on arrival.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Southwest Airlines confirmed that the aircraft was met by police and medical personnel following a “situation involving a customer.”
“Our Teams are reaching out to those onboard to apologize for the situation and any delays to their travel plans,” a spokesperson added. “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees, and we appreciate the professionalism of the flight crew.”
The aircraft had to be taken out of service for deep cleaning but was back in the air by 11:30 am, according to data supplied by Flight Radar 24.
The incident occurred less than two months after a female passenger on a Southwest flight at Houston Hobby Airport stripped naked and started to pace up and down the aisle while cursing at the passengers around her.
In this case, the woman started to act up while the plane was still taxiing for departure, so the pilots were able to immediately return to the gate, where she was removed by law enforcement.
Southwest Airlines proactively offered all the passengers on that flight a $50 future travel voucher as compensation for what they had endured.
In this latest incident, it is unclear whether the passenger was arrested or taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
