A second Lufthansa Group airline has decided to abandon Elon Musk’s X social media platform just months after Austrian Airlines said the site had been ruined by the “increasing spread of hate, agitation, and disinformation.”
On Friday, the Lufthansa Group’s budget carrier Eurowings said it was “time for takeoff” in its final post on X, which included a photo of a smirking pilot and a caption that read: “Gate closed. We discontinue our presence on X.”
Interestingly, Eurowings hasn’t set up an alternative account on X’s fastest-growing competitor, Blue Sky, which has already seen a slew of other airlines land there, including American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic – both of which have simply reserved their presence.
Eurowings is, however, encouraging passengers to connect with it on TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The airline also has a presence on Instagram but not on the platform’s X rival Threads.
In October, fellow Lufthansa Group carrier Austrian Airlines said it was abandoning X because “an increasing spread of hate, agitation, and disinformation is perceptible, and this is not compatible with our values.”
Following Musk’s controversial takeover of the social media platform that was formerly known as Twitter, several other carriers reduced their presence on the site, including Dutch flag carrier KLM and Air France.
United Airlines also quickly withdrew advertising from X and is yet to return to the platform with paid commercials. Many companies remained concerned about the risk of brand damage due to uncensored and controversial posts that proliferate on the platform.
Other Lufthansa Group airlines, including the namesake German flag carrier Lufthansa, as well as SWISS and Brussels Airlines, continue to post on X… for the time being at least.

It’s nice to see some companies following their values over money-making. If given the choice, I would select their products and services every time. More industries should follow suit.
Eurowing, the suicide airline? Better staying away, Better work, not politics.
Good of you for making a choice. Now live with the consequences – good and bad.
What a bunch of whiny babies. Just because Mr. Musk exposed the former Twitter for the censorship machine that it was, y’all whine & cry about your pathetic “issues”.
Eurowings…..intentionally flying airplanes into mountains because of hate. Got it.
It was always full of hate. Only woke up now.
