An ‘unbelievable’ member of the cabin crew on a recent flight from Cape Town to London made a newly engaged couple’s trip all the more memorable and, just in time for the festive season, this is actually a heartwarming story that will no doubt leave you in high spirits.
Cabin crew are trained to be observant and to maintain a high level of situational awareness at all times, although we’re so often bombarded with tales of flight attendants failing to do their jobs properly or giving passengers all the wrong reasons to remember their flight.
Unbelievable Cabin Crew – How did they notice?

Thankfully, this most certainly wasn’t the case for a passenger and his girlfriend who flew with British Airways in its Club World Business Class for a trip of a lifetime to South Africa earlier this month.
On the outbound flight, the cabin crew made a good impression with “brilliant service throughout,” according to the passenger who shared their story on social media site Reddit.
It was, however, the return flight that stood out for the couple, who were already overjoyed after getting engaged during their vacation in the Mother City.
If luck would have it, the exact same member of cabin crew who had served them on their outbound flight was also serving them on the return leg, and he immediately recognized the happy couple.
The passenger never shared with the flight attendant that he had popped the question to his fiance during their vacation, but towards the end of the flight, the crew member took them surprise when he presented them with a bottle of champagne to take home.
“I noticed the ring as soon as you boarded – congratulations,” the crew said to them as he presented the bottle. The passenger couldn’t help but share how “impressed” he was with the crew member’s observation skills.
“This is what I like about BA,” one person replied. “Yes the website sucks. Yes the app can be temperamental. Yes, Heathrow can suffer from weather events and BA will delay and cancel flights, but it’s little things like this, cabin crew treating you like a person not just self loading cargo that keeps me coming back.”
“I fly a lot with QR [Qatar Airways] and the service is just so false. There are a lot great BA crews out there, there are exceptional ones too.”
Another Reddit user agreed with that sentiment, replying: “As someone who has flown BA Only in economy, I am just gonna say the only thing good in BA Economy is the amazing crew.”
“Very impressed this happened in CW [Club World],” a third person replied. “This is something I wouldn’t even expect from Singapore First.”
In 2019, passengers voted British Airways cabin crew the best in Europe at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, but this year, the carrier lost out to Austrian Airlines, who won the award for both Western Europe and Europe as a whole.
In the 2024 awards, Singapore Airlines won the accolade for having the best cabin crew in the world, while ANA All Nippon Airlines took second place, and third place was awarded to Garuda Indonesia.
British Airways did not make the top 20 of world’s best cabin crew.
