Sin City lived up to its name for one South Carolina man who was arrested earlier this week at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on suspicion of making terroristic threats after getting into a confrontation with airline staff.
According to a police report, Jared Peeler made threats towards Alaska Airlines staffers close to the check-in desks on September 9 after his request to buy a ticket for a flight to South Carolina was rebuffed because the airline doesn’t offer any non-stop routings from Las Vegas.
Peeler had allegedly already been involved in an altercation at the Delta Air Lines ticket desk because he couldn’t buy a ticket as he didn’t have any credit cards on him, and he then started to become agitated while dealing with the Alaska Airlines agents.
Airline workers asked Peeler to leave but he allegedly refused and then started to shout and curse at passersby. At this point, it is alleged Peeler made a terroristic threat when he shouted: “If I was a terrorist, I’d blow up this place” and “Come back and shoot this s***”.
After then declaring his support for President Trump, the police were called and Peeler was taken into custody.
According to local media reports, Peeler told officers that eyewitnesses misheard what he said and he had actually shouted: “Good thing I’m not a terrorist and I’m not trying to blow up the airport.”
Peeler had been in Las Vegas to place a sports bet and told officers that he was impatient to get back home and that he wasn’t used to waiting because he is “from money.”
Peeler has been charged with a felony offense of making a false threat about terrorism. The Las Vegas Justice Court released Peeler from custody the following day under the condition that he only returns to Harry Reid Airport if he is already a ticketed passenger.
