A 33-year-old JetBlue flight attendant has lost both of her legs in a horror car crash during a vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Juliana Castaño was left fighting for her life after the SUV she was traveling in with her three young children veered off the Los Manantiales highway in Punta Cana as they were driving to what was meant to be a fun-filled family day out at an amusement park.
Local media outlets reported that a roadside railing pierced through the door of the SUV and severed both of Juliana’s legs. Juliana was rushed to hospital following the August 27 accident, where she is still recovering.
Somehow, Juliana’s husband and three children managed to escape the wreckage unharmed.
With Juliana’s career as a flight attendant cut short and a long and painful recovery ahead, her family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the significant medical expenses she will face, including the cost of prosthetics.
“Happy to be alive, she looks forward to her return home and reunion with her children,” Juliana’s family wrote on her fundraising page. “She is hopeful to qualify for prosthetics in the future and recover to a point where she can resume providing for her family.”
“The journey ahead will not be easy, and each of us can help her recovery and possibility of walking again,” her family wrote in the heartwrenching post.
“Despite the life-altering circumstances, Salo remains strong and determined to overcome.”
So far, Juliana’s GoFundMe page has helped raise over $36,000 to help fund her treatment and recovery.
