A Bulgarian man at Bogota El Dorado International Airport repeatedly stabbed himself in the neck with a broken bottle in front of horrified passengers on Saturday night after he sought help from immigration officials to get back to Europe.
According to local sources, the man had arrived at the airport in distress, telling local authorities that he had been the victim of a robbery that had left him without any of his personal belongings, including his passport, money, and other documents.
The man reportedly begged officials to help him get back to Bulgaria, but he was told to seek help from the Bulgarian embassy. After being told that he couldn’t fly, the man broke a bottle and held a shard of glass to his neck in a stand-off that took place in the airport’s main departures area.
Stunned bystanders watched on as immigration officials and police attempted to negotiate with the man before he suddenly plunged the shard of glass into his neck.
Passengers cried out in horror as the man repeatedly stabbed himself in the neck, as local law enforcement rushed to try to stop the man from harming himself.
In a disturbing video of the incident, the man runs away from police, stumbling as police attempt to Taser him in an attempt to defuse the situation. The man managed to sprint through the airport check-in area before police eventually detained him and he was transferred to a medical center for emergency treatment.
The incident occurred just days after an American tourist was caught on camera kicking and banging on the door of a LATAM aircraft at Bogota El Dorado after he arrived at the gate after boarding had already concluded.
The man had reportedly arrived at the airport late and was warned by security staff that he probably wouldn’t get to the gate on time but when he was told that the gate was closed he pushed past airport staffers and headed to the plane.
The aircraft door was already closed by the time the man made it down the airbridge, leading him to kick at the aircraft and scream to be let onboard the flight to Cartagena.
The man was detained by police and later deported from Colombia after he allegedly assaulted an immigration official.
