Cathay Pacific Launches New Tourism-Focused Safety Video, Replaces Seven-Year-Old Video

Cathay Pacific has just unveiled its latest safety video which leans very heavily on the side of promoting its home town of Hong Kong as a tourism destination, taking passengers on a whistlestop tour of some of the most iconic locations around the territory.

No surprises then that the video was created in close collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, although Cathay Pacific insists that the video has all the “necessary safety protocols while educating customers in an informative and engaging way.”

The airline does, however, admit that it wanted to use the video to promote Hong Kong, showcasing some of the city’s iconic landmarks and natural landscapes.

At over six minutes long, it might be a bit of a stretch for passengers to pay attention to the entire video, although it interweaves instructions in both English and Cantonese, which naturally adds time to fit all the safety instructions in both languages.

As has become so common, Cathay Pacific hasn’t used real-life aircraft cabins in its latest video, which may prove challenging for passengers who don’t speak English or Mandarin confidently to understand some of the more nuanced instructions.

The video is set to launch across Cathay Pacific’s fleet on August 1 which also happens to be the date that British Airways plans to launch its new Bridgerton inspired safety video.
