A serving Australian police officer has been charged with the murder of his ex-boyfriend and his new partner following a days-long missing persons hunt, which is still to establish the whereabouts of the couple.
Despite the fact that police are yet to find the bodies of the two men, New South Wales Police believe there is enough evidence to charge the 29-year-old serving police officer who handed himself into investigators on Friday morning.
Although investigators have not yet named the suspect, local media have identified him as Beau Lamarre-Condon, the ex-boyfriend of Jesse Baird, 26, a former TV presenter with Australian network Ten.
Baird was in a new relationship with Luke Davies, a former Virgin Australia flight attendant who had risen to become an international crew member of Australian flag carrier Qantas.
On Wednesday, police found items belonging to both Davies and Baird covered in blood in a garbage dumpster in the Sydney suburb of Cronulla.
When officers went to Baird’s property in the Paddington suburb, they found a large amount of blood,” according to Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty. They also found a single bullet that was ballistically matched to a gun owned by Lamarre.
Police are yet to confirm the motive behind the alleged slaying, but investigators are a potential “domestic style incident”. They believe the murder took place in Baird’s house.
Davies had only been working for Qantas for around four months and previously worked for Virgin Australia’s budget subsidiary Tiger Air. Baird had recently left Network Ten but was seen as a rising star in Australian television.
Once a celebrity blogger, Lamarre-Condon joined the New South Wales police force in 2020. He is being held at Waverley Police station where investigations continue.
