It’s not unusual for IHG One Rewards, the loyalty program of IHG Hotels and Resorts, to offer bonus promotions on point purchases, and at the moment, it is running a flash sale that allows members to purchase points with a 100% bonus.

What’s the deal?

During this flash sale, you can buy IHG One Reward points with a 100% bonus. The bonus starts at a minimum purchase of 5,000 points or more.

For example:

  • 5,000 points cost $67.50 for a bonus of 5,000 points
  • 10,000 points cost $135 for a bonus of 10,000 points
  • 15,000 points cost $172.50 for a bonus of 15,000 points
  • 20,000 points cost $230 for a bonus of 20,000 points

It can take up to 72 hours for the purchased points to post to your account, although in most cases, we’ve found it normally takes little more than a day.

The sale is currently scheduled to end on July 28 and the normal purchase limit of 150,000 points per calender year applies to this promotion.

How Much is an IHG One Rewards Point Worth?

On average, I value an IHG One Rewards point to be worth around 0.6 cents per point, but the value can fluctuate based on factors such as the specific hotel property, location, and demand.

IHG Hotels & Resorts offers award night redemptions starting from 10,000 points per night. However, keep in mind that more luxurious or aspirational properties within the IHG portfolio can cost significantly more points.

Important Points to Consider

While this flash sale offers a compelling opportunity to buy points with a 100% bonus, it’s important to consider a few factors before making a purchase:

  • IHG One Rewards points expire after 12 months of inactivity. However, there are various ways to keep your account active, including purchasing more points through points.com.
  • Purchasing points do not count towards an elite status qualification within the IHG One Rewards program.

I generally only recommend buying points when you are on the cusp of a redemption, or you have a specific award stay in mind. Personally, I don’t speculatively buy points, although if you use IHG Hotels & Resorts regularly and you’re confident that you’ll use points, then it doesn’t get much better than a 100% bonus offer to stock up on points.
