Following the recent news that MGM Resorts was cutting ties with the World of Hyatt loyalty program, Marriott International has surfaced as MGM’s new partner with a new cobranded hotel collection and reciprocal loyalty program benefits.

The two hospitality brands said on Monday that they were launching an “exclusive long-term strategic licensing agreement” that will see 17 of MGM’s resorts become part of the ‘MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy’.

In total, the partnership will result in more than 40,000 hotel rooms in Las Vegas and several other cities across the United States joining the Marriott network. The additional rooms which are being made available by the partnership with MGM represent a 2.4% increase in Marriott’s current global room inventory.

The first hotels will be available to book through Marriott’s booking channels in October, although it will take until the end of the year for the whole portfolio to become available.

The 40 million members of MGM Resorts’ loyalty program will be able to link accounts with Marriott Bonvoy and vice versa. The two companies have promised reciprocal benefits for members of each other’s programs, although details of exactly what will be on offer haven’t yet been revealed.

In addition, Marriott Bonvoy members will soon be able to earn Marriott Bonvoy points on certain BetMGM transactions – the online gaming and sports betting joint venture of MGM. Again, more details won’t be revealed until the fall.

Under the terms of the deal, four of MGM’s properties will become affiliated with Marriott collection brands:

  • Bellagio Resort & Casino will join The Luxury Collection
  • ARIA Resort & Casino will join Autograph Collection
  • Park MGM will become part of the Tribute Portfolio
  • The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas will continue its affiliation with Autograph Collection.

Eight other MGM properties in Las Vegas will join the ‘MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy’:

  • Vdara Hotel & Spa
  • MGM Grand Hotel & Casino
  • NoMad Las Vegas
  • The Signature at MGM Grand
  • Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino
  • New York-New York Hotel & Casino
  • Luxor Hotel and Casino
  • and Excalibur Hotel & Casino.

Finally, five other MGM properties outside of Las Vegas will also join the ‘MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy’:

  • Borgata (Atlantic City, New Jersey)
  • Beau Rivage (Biloxi, Mississippi)
  • MGM Grand Detroit (Michigan)
  • MGM National Harbor (Maryland)
  • and MGM Springfield (Massachusetts)

“This historic, long-term agreement brings together two of the most trusted and iconic brands in hospitality and entertainment,” commented Bill Hornbuckle, President and CEO of MGM Resorts.

Hornbuckle noted that MGM had already seen “strong demand” from Marriott’s customers through the existing relationship at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

“We’re thrilled to now scale the relationship and offer Marriott Bonvoy members greater distribution access to our award-winning resorts – as well as exclusive event and entertainment opportunities – in Las Vegas and across the U.S,” Hornbuckle continued.
