A transgender woman has reportedly landed herself with a social media ban after she accused flight attendants of using the incorrect pronouns when they addressed her.
The incident occurred during a recent Juneyao Airlines flight when the 17-year-old woman noticed that flight attendants in the Business Class cabin were addressing passengers by their surname and pronoun, according to the SCMP.
But when the flight attendants addressed her, they allegedly used the wrong pronoun or just avoided using a pronoun altogether. The woman says she is a frequent flyer and is always normally addressed as Ms or Miss.
The decision prompted a complaint from the woman, and the chief flight attendant repeatedly apologised, saying she was afraid of offending her. The passenger accepted the apology but then posted the video online.
Social media users took offense to the woman posting the video online and it was soon discovered that the transgender passenger had been detained by police earlier this year after she managed to get into a luxury woman’s bathhouse using a fake identity card.
The woman has not had gender reassignment surgery.
Chinese social media platform then threw the woman off its platform, accusing her of “malicious marketing practices” in relation to the two incidents.
In November 2020, a gay Chinese flight attendant sued China Southern Airways, accusing the carrier of discrimination after he was suspended and eventually let go after a video of him kissing another man off-duty was posted on social media.
