UK National Rail railcards which offer discounts on rail tickets of up to 50%, are currently being sold by Trip.com with a big markdown on the usual price for a limited time.
National Rail currently offers nine different types of railcards and they are all normally sold for a set price of £30 for a card with 12-month validity. For a limited time, however, Trip.com has discounted this price to just £19.80 – a 34% discount on the normal price.
The best thing about this offer is that railcards are now offered digitally, which means you can complete the whole application form via Trip.com or another authorised retailer, and the railcard is ready to use straight away.
One of the most popular railcard categories is what used to be known as the ‘young persons railcard’, and it’s a very popular option for anyone aged 30 or under. This category is split into three age groups:
- Holders aged between 16 and 17 years old are entitled to a 50%,
- Those aged 16-25 are entitled to a 1/3 discount,
- And those aged 26-30 years old are also entitled to a 1/3 discount.
People often mistakenly think railcards are just for young people, but that isn’t the case anymore, and there are a variety of other railcards available that could help you save money.
One of the most popular is the Network Railcard which offers a 1/3 discount on tickets for services within London and the South-East of England. This particular railcard can be used for anyone of any age, as long as your departure leaves after 10 am and both departs and arrives at an applicable station within the South East of England.
This card packs a lot of punch because you can also travel with up to three adults on the same card, and they’ll get the same 1/3 off, along with a massive 60% discount on child fares for up to four children aged 5-15.
There are also specific railcards for seniors, couples and veterans, although, unfortunately, the veteran’s railcard isn’t currently available through Trip.com. It’s worth noting that rail companies can and do place other restrictions on railcard validity, and sometimes a specific service isn’t eligible.
It’s all worth checking that the railcard you are using can be used on the service you want to catch before it’s too late and you end up being asked to pay a fare differential.
To get one of these railcards at a discounted price, simply follow this link to the Trip.com website and ‘claim’ your discount pack at the top of the page.
