A Boeing 737 with 132 people onboard has crashed into a mountain range in southern China, state media confirmed on Monday.
China Eastern flight MU5735 crashed into a hillside in Tengxian County, near Wuzhou. There was no immediate information about casualties.
Unverified video from the area showed a large plume of smoke rising from the hillside where the crash occurred.
In another video, the aircraft is seen to plummet from the sky in the moments before it crashes. The crash scene appears to cover a wide area and an extensive fire was observed.
Chinese officials said they had dispatched search and rescue teams to the scene.
Data from flight tracking websites shows the aircraft descending at more than 3,000 feet per minutes in the moments before it crashed.
In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of China confirmed the 737-800 jet had been involved in an ‘accident’ and that 123 passengers and nine crew members were onboard.
The aircraft was around six years old and it was not a MAX jet which was involved in two fatal accidents in Ethiopia and Indonesia.
