Just before the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc around the world, Delta Air Lines was putting the finishing touches on a brand new safety video to coincide with a new season of the hit ‘Queer Eye’ Netflix reboot. The pandemic, like so many things, delayed the release of the new video before senior executives finally took the decision to drop the video altogether.
Instead, Delta reworked their latest safety video for the Coronavirus era with flight attendants, pilots and passengers all playing their parts while wearing face masks. Whatever your feeling on face masks, the message was clear – face masks on planes are here to stay.
Delta originally teamed up with Queer Eye after the Netflix show descended on the Atlanta area for Season five. One episode shows the extraordinary journey of one of Delta’s own employees which is available exclusively on the airline’s in-flight entertainment system, as well as on YouTube through to the end of 2021.
The safety video is fun, inclusive and heartwarming but sadly, it will unlikely ever be played on a real aircraft. “As the federal mask mandate remains in effect, we ultimately made the determination to look for other ways to highlight the video,” a spokesperson told us.
Thankfully, all is not lost and while the video won’t be shown on your next flight, Delta did at least release the video on YouTube. You can enjoy what could have been above.
