Australian flag carrier Qantas is launching a line of luxe athleisure-wear featuring vintage logos from throughout the airline’s history – in part to celebrate the company’s centenary history but also to raise much-needed funds while international flights remain grounded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The limited-edition collection, featuring a A$350 beach tote and a A$425 cashmere sweater, has been designed by Australian designer Martin Grant, who also designed the iconic Qantas Business Class pyjamas.

The collection features a hoodie, sweatshirts, and t-shirts which have “fused Qantas’ iconic red and navy palette with a vivid wattle yellow to represent Australia’s native floral emblem,” explained the airline in a press release on Wednesday.

“This collection is all about classic shapes, comfortable styles and materials that are kind on the environment. But the hero of the designs are the iconic logos that evoke so many fond memories for Australians,” explained the now Paris-based fashion designer Grant.

“The Qantas brand is embedded in the history of our country. I wanted this collection to be a nod to the past but also be a treasured piece for the future,” he continued.

Along with designing Qantas’ Business Class pyjamas, Grant also designed the airline’s cabin crew and pilot uniforms, as well as the First Class amenity kits.

In recent weeks, Qantas has taken to selling the Business Class pyjamas that Grant designed and were sitting unused in the airline’s warehouses. Frugal shoppers were able to get hold of the grey PJ’s as part of a A$25 care package, while the pyjamas were also included in a A$974 fully-stocked bar cart from Qantas’ now-retired Boeing 747s.

Qantas doesn’t expect to start flying internationally again until at least the middle of 2021, while the Australian government doesn’t expect to reopen its borders to tourists until the end of next year at the earliest. Instead of heading overseas, eager flyers instead snapped up a Qantas seven-hour sightseeing ‘flight to nowhere’.

The flight was the fastest-selling in Qantas history and was another attempt to generate some much-needed income.

The Martin Grant collection is available exclusively from the Qantas Rewards Store and until stock lasts.
